In the mood for some spirit driven, lyrically charged, classic rock that borders on the metal side? Have you been missing that old school Christian rock from bands like Rez Band or The Daniel Band? Well look no further than the Eastern Coast of the good old USA and you will find the band that fits that bill! Messenger have been putting out that great classic Christian rock for quite a few years now and they do it very well!

Led by front man, Frank Clifton Herring, Frank and Messenger boldly wear their hearts on their sleeves and do it just like many of the classic ‘Jesus Movement’ rock bands of the 70’s and 80’s, which is something you don’t see much of these days with all the screamo bands out there. On this release, which is the bands sophomore effort entitled ‘You Choose’, the band continues to grow both musically and lyrically. Technically the band already have three quality releases under their belt including their debut album ‘I’m Talking To You’ which was immediately followed up with by a live CD and a live DVD both entitled ‘On Delivery’.

What lacks here in quantity definitely makes up for in quality with 10 tracks that clock in at just around 30 minutes in its entirety, and it definitely leaves the listener wanting more. The CD opens with the track ‘The Sacrifice’, which is probably my favorite track on the disc, as it boldly addresses the death of our Lord and Savior. And the track ends by simply telling the listener ‘Why hate the Messenger? Because it makes ‘You Choose’, which cleverly ties in to the title of the new disc.

There are quite a few rockers on here, some stand out tracks for me were Paradise, Rulemaker, and the Cave. This listener particularly likes the anthem track on here entitled ‘Christian Rocker’! Yes it can be a little cheesy at times, but aren’t we all? It’s a fun loving anthem that proclaims ‘He’s just judging me because I’m a Christian Rocker’ haven’t we all been there at one time or another? I love the track!

All in all I’d give this album a listen if your longing for the  days of not only good old classic Christian Rock but also to be spiritually renewed and recharged! Messenger do it better than most, so listen at Full Volume!
