Woe Of Tyrants – Threnody
Metal Blade Records 2010
Third full length by Woe Of Tyrants and it’s full of well established death metal tunes with a dash of core influences. I am a big fan of Between The Buried And Me and you can see some influences in this album. Not surprisingly Dustie Warning (BTBAM guitarist) did some guitar work on this song “Venom Eyes” which is a great song. The drumming is excellent and rapid fast. The album is full of creative guitar riffs and solos but some remind me a little too much of Between The Buried And Me which takes away the originality a little bit. This album is full of brutality and the production is crisp clear. That’s probably the major issue that bothers me. The production is great and I’m all for good production but it’s a tad too crisp and kind of takes away from the heaviness and dirty sound that many great death metal bands tend to portray in their music. Personally I’m unable to decide if I dig this or their second full length Kingdom of Might but I think I’m leaning toward to Threnody at the moment.
