Terraphobia – Evilution
2011 – Soundmass

Intense is defined as “existing in a high degree; forceful or exteme”.  This describes the newest release from Terraphobia – Evilution.  Though it’s been a decade since the last Terraphobia album, Michael Jelinic hasn’t dropped the ball at all.  The music is pure rip-your-face-off-and-melt-you-down metal.  I would say that the intensity of the music is similar to Sympathy.  Michael just never lets up which is definitely a good thing.  The album starts off with the title track – “Evilution”.  It’s starts off with a great heart-felt guitar-solo before it kicks into high gear with Mic’s gruff vocals ripping things up along with some blazing fret-work.  “False Prophet” keeps up the unrelenting break-neck speed.  Mic again delivers another smoking solo in this song as well.  “Soldiers of the New Millennium” is a true metal anthem with the chorus “Hear our voice . . . Raise your fists in the air . . . We are strong . . . United as one”.  “Fallen Hero” picks up the thrashing speed again while talking about some of the issues that soldiers have upon return home from battle.  “Hell on Earth” continues the theme of war with truthful lyrics like “War is hell, will they ever learn? War is hell, hell right here on earth”.  “Golgotha” is a break-neck telling of the Passion of Christ.  It’s truly amazing the guitar work is on this short song.  “The Unforgotten” slows things down a bit again with Mic playing all the instruments, including the drums and keyboard.  It’s a piece remembering a loved one who passed on from this mortal life into the eternal.  “Doctor Death” returns with a vengeance with speeds similar to a grind song.  The lyrics remind me a bit of Seventh Angel’s “Dr. Hatchet”.  It is definitely an anti-abortion song.  “Meanhouse Effect” is another blistering song dealing with the evils of this world and how we’ve let it become like this.  The album finishes up with “Phase 6” which deals with biological warfare and the fear and terror that it spreads.  Overall, this is a killer album that tears it up all the way through.  It is definitely INTENSE!!!
