SinBreedSinBreed – When Worlds Collide
Ulterium Records

Ulterium Records has unleashed upon us another gem of European power metal with SinBreed’s debut album When Worlds Collide.  Originally known as Neoshine, SinBreed is the creation of guitarist Florian “Flo” Laurin.  And joining him are some known players as well in vocalist Herbie Langhans of Seventh Avenue and drummer Frederik Ehmke of Blind Guardian with newcomer Alex Schulz on bass to round out the group.  And while you can definitely hear their influences on the album, SinBreed is definitely something more than a Seventh Avenue or Blind Guardian sound-alike.  Flo has done some excellent song writing with strong choruses and solid melodies.  All of the songs are either mid-paced or faster, so there’s no power ballad to skip over.  And there are some great solos, both on guitar and on keyboards.  And like a lot of European power metal bands, there are some guest musicians handling some of the solos.  Kai Mühlenbruch (guitarist for Seventh Avenue), Morten Sandager (keyboardist for Pretty Maids) and Joost “Juice” van den Broek (keyboardist for Ayreon as well as a guest musician for Neoshine, the predecessor to Sinbreed) join in on the album to help round out the sound.  Herbie Langhans’ vocals really shine in songs like “Dust to Dust” and “Book of Life” where he gets a chance to really show his range.  All throughout the album, Frederik keeps the beat going loud and strong to the point that you think he’s going to break through your speakers.  “Through the Dark” has a great keyboard phrase at the beginning of the song that continually shows up throughout the song.  The song also has a fantastic guitar solo that just wails and shows the technical prowess of Flo.  If you like European power metal that picks you up and doesn’t slow down, then this album is for you.
