Out of nowhere Despicable Heroes appeared on the hardcore/ metalcore scene. Hailing from the little peaceful town called Barneveld in The Netherlands. Yet the band has been around playing some local band competitions and gigs since 2010. Early 2013 the band signed with the Dutch indie label Unite Records and were able to record their debut, which was released in May.

We kick off with “The Stand” and “Walls”. Pounding drums, excellent riffs, screaming vocals and off course the breakdowns. Despicable Heroes has it all. Their talent is undeniable from the start. However the solo in “Walls” seems to be a filler to get the right length on the song.
We continue with “Grey To Black”. The song has somewhat dark lyrics, but musically it is one of the best songs on the album. I love the use of guest vocals on several songs on the album. It gives some diversity to the album.
“Seven” is a bit of a genre breaker. Where the first three songs flirt more with the metalcore genre, “Seven” seems to have found a more hardcore feel, which I actually prefer a bit more. I love the middle part with only bass, drums and vocals.
“No Way Back” and “Opened Eyes” also shows the bands diversity. The tracks are faster, but with the use of the breakdowns it falls in the right place again.

All in all “Shipwrecked” is a fine debut album. Though the band can still grow in songwriting, their musicianship is excellent. Despicable Heroes have shown they have potential. I am looking forward hearing more from these guys in the future.
