Jeff Hanneman of Slayer Memorial Services to be picketed by Westboro Baptist Church
Westboro Baptist Church continues spewing its hatred and garnering even more and more attention in the process. This time at the memorial services being held at the Hollywood Palladium on May 23, 2013 for Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman.
Here is what the Westboro Baptist Church has to say and what they apparently will be doing at this Thursday’s scheduled memorial service…
[Jeff Hanneman received his “talent” from God. Indeed, his very breath of life was from God, “In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind,” Job. 12:10.
Instead of being thankful, and using his talents to glorify God, and warn the generation into which he was born to fear and obey God, Hanneman used this resource to encourage sin.
In last week’s Kerrang magazine, WBC explained why we will picket this memorial: TO WARN THE LIVING! Jeff made a mock of sin through Slayer’s music. No wonder God struck him down early in life.]

In response to the proposed appearance Slayer has posted the following message on their official Facebook page…
[“Message to fans: ……….Do exactly what SLAYER members and family are going to do – totally ignore them. They don’t exist. And then come inside and celebrate Jeff’s life with us.”]
Editorial Note:
As Christians and as Christian metal fans, it needs to be said that the Westboro Baptist Church and the hatred they preach is not representative of what Christianity is about. We as Christians are called to go out in to the world and be good stewards and share God’s love and hope found in Christ Jesus . While it is true that God disdains sin, it must also be understood that God loves the sinner. So much so that He gave His only begotten son to make a way of Salvation from those sins.
The Westboro Baptist group is not only giving a bad name to Christians the world around, they are actually making a mockery out of the gospel and true faith in Jesus Christ.
It is my hope that in these moments, Hanneman’s friends and family will look to God for guidance and comfort. God’s not looking to picket the service; quite the opposite… He’s looking to be invited into the service and into their lives. Even in tragedy God’s peace can be found. A free gift found at the cross to all whom choose to receive it.
We express our condolences to Hanneman’s close friends and family and we pray that God can bring peace and comfort to the Slayer members and their families.
