ForToday_FightTheSIlence_CoverFor Today has come a long way since their emergence on the Christian Hardcore scene in 2005, from, of all places, Sioux City, Iowa. The band started at the bottom, and like many other successful bands, clawed their way to the top of their genre. With their latest release ‘Fight the Silence’ through Razor & Tie Records, the band cements itself as one of the leaders in Christian Hardcore.

The entire album is dedicated to raising awareness of sex slavery and the human trafficking going on in the world today, and surprisingly enough even in the U.S. Proceeds from the sales of the album will support the A21 Campaign, which is raising awareness of this horrible issue. I was reading an interview with Mattie Montgomery (Lead Vocalist), from Blabbermouth.net, and he was touched so much by a show about this subject, that he had seen the morning of starting to record the album, that he deleted all the lyrics that he had written previously, and re-wrote the album in 45 minutes. The songs on this album are truly inspired. Not one track sounds like the other. This CD really touches the soul and drives the message home! As a fan of For Today I was really looking forward to this CD and it definitely delivers.

The album also touches on the subject of single parent homes, particularly those without fathers. Anyone that follows Mattie Montgomery knows that he was raised in a home without a father, and the song “Fatherless” really shows his heart on the subject, and it is also one of my favorites on the CD. Mattie Montgomery is an awesome preacher and if you have not heard him before he preaches regularly through his ministry which is based out of Mobile, Al, at Rock Church. His podcasts can be heard through his website www.mattiemontgomery.com . If anyone ever had a question about this man’s love for God you will doubt no more after listening to him preach.

Saying that, his anointing to write the songs that he continues to write for this band keep getting deeper and deeper into the word of God. There are no hidden agendas or meanings when you hear the lyrics of the songs. The lyrics for “Molotov” and “One Voice” are calling out personal conviction and for our generation to rise up against sin.

Each song outdoes the next on this CD and this band shows no stopping in spreading the word of God. “Dead to Rights” talks of the love Jesus Christ had for us and giving his life for us, so that we might have eternal life. This song is powerful and is a sinner’s prayer unlike any other that I have ever heard through music. Many of the other songs really leave you feeling like you were talking from Christ’s point of view. They are very powerful!

This CD is the band’s best effort to date and I cannot find any fault with it. My spirit has truly been touched and as I write this review I can truly say that we serve an awesome God. I find myself feeling guilty at times thinking that I often do not deserve the love and compassion that God has given me. But when those feelings come, I also remember that we are all sinners, and only by the Grace of God, and his son Jesus Christ am I able to overcome those feelings of fear and guilt. We serve a mighty and awesome God and I am thankful that there is music in my life that is there to remind me of that!

If you’re a fan of For Today you will absolutely love this CD and if you have never entertained the thought of listening to For Today, now is the time. This CD will truly touch you spiritually and you will be glad that you took the time to purchase and listen to this great band!
